At approximately 10:30 am, Wednesday, May 24th, Pelican Bay Inmates on “A” yard staged a fight amongst themselves. When Pelican Bay Correctional Officers arrived to break up the melee, the inmates turned on the officers. 22 bullets were fired hitting 5 of the inmates.
It is reported 8 officers, and 7 inmates were hospitalized locally at Sutter Coast Hospital.
An investigation is currently underway.
