Crescent City Continues Water Conservation

Don’t give up on water conservation!

The State will be continuing to look at water reduction numbers through February and comparing these numbers to the same months in 2013/2014.

As a reminder, Crescent City is mandated to reduce our use by 16% over these numbers. It may seem counterintuitive, but this will likely be MORE difficult to do over winter months when it is raining. In summer months, simply not watering lawns reduces our use by a significant amount.

In the winter our community will need to pay close attention to things like limiting our showers, soaking dishes instead of running the water, filling the dishwasher and washing machine before use, etc.

    Maybe you should tell the Rancher, Dairy and Bulb farmers about the water mandated water reduction. They are still selling water to other ranchers for profit. This all comes out of the same water supply system as all the other residents in Del Norte County, that are being told to save on water. Crescent City you are full of Shit! You put this on the backs of the people that have to hook up to the water system and let the main users of the water get off Scot Free, they use all they need with no penalty. This is all so Crescent City can get their water grants. These grants are for the Crescent City residents and not the County users.

    The City of Crescent City does not sell water to the ranchers etc. Everything the city sells are in the city and county area near the city. The State Governor put water restrictions on every city and we have to obey the law. The City put nothing on the backs of the city and county water users. Please get your facts straight.

    Richard Enea as a City Council member, you would think you check all the facts yourself. The way this reads to me is; the water comes out of the same river (Smith River). The City gets its water from the Big water tower above 101 bridge and the Ranchers etc. gets their water below 101 bridge. You need to see the big picture. The Governor put water restrictions on the whole State not just Crescent City. I thought it would be good for everyone not just Crescent City but the whole County, but you can’t see past the City limits. I know that you are on other boards that deal with County and City problems. What I am getting at…we need thinkers to solve county and city problems not just one siders or just for Crescent City. We need someone that is fair to every one or some one that can see the whole picture. So why do you sit on other boards that deal with everybody’s problems for the City and County? It must be for the money not for the people.

    Hi there.
    Our community, city and county are general law communities.
    This means California state law applies to both the county and the city.
    I believe the water conservation law covers the county as well.
    Let’s hear more feedback.

    policies are to be set by ELECTED OFFICIALS. How many time was Richie, kiss-up, appointed to office?

    The lily growers and ranchers create minimal jobs for local people. Most of the workers are immigrants and spend very little of their income in the local community.

    Local kids seeking work are deterred from employment with these farms and ranches because it is impossible for them to afford the gas getting to and from work because of the minimal wage.

    Everyone suffers from the Smith River being depleted because salmon and other fish cannot make it up the river to spawn due to the fact there is no gauge on the water intake.

    Along with all the water being sucked out of the Smith River, there are small fish, salamanders, and frogs.

    They are sucked up into the irrigation pipes and plug the sprinkler heads.
    These small fish, salamanders and frogs are then being killed by being dug out of the sprinkler heads.

    Quite likely many fish killed are salmon, steelhead and fertile eggs.

    Proper screening of the intake pipes in the river would alleviate this situation.

    It is a mandatory State law that any intake pipes from the river must be screened to protect this fragile ecosystem.

    This has been unchecked for decades.

    New ranches and farms are being hooked up and charged high prices for irrigation water that is free to those ranchers and farms that have the grandfather clause.

    Why are the city and the county supervisors turning a blind eye to this state mandated water conservation law?

    This law is a statewide mandated law.
