marijuana plantsPublic Meetings just announced by the CA Department of Food and Agriculture & the Medical Cannabis Cultivation Program: Grower Participation Needed.

The CA Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) is developing regulations to establish cannabis cultivation licensing and a track and trace system, collectively referred to as the Medical Cannabis Cultivation Program (MCCP).

The overall purpose of CDFA’s licensing program is to ensure medical cannabis cultivation is performed in a manner that protects the environment, cannabis cultivation workers, and the general public from the individual and cumulative effects of these operations, and fully complies with all applicable laws.

An additional MCCP purpose is to establish a track and trace program to ensure the movement of medical cannabis items are tracked throughout the production chain. Public participation is a critical part of the regulation development and environmental review process. CDFA welcomes public participation throughout the planning and environmental review process of cultivation licensing in CA.

    Thank you for publishing this and my article on commercial cannabis last year. The California Growers Association is also an excellent source for all the current information on this topic specific to California. There is also the Del Norte Growers Association facebook page. Our board of supervisors has made little public comment on this topic and we will be losing tax money soon without action. Humboldt county CAO,Amy Nilsen,wrote a letter to the community urging support for measure S, a local tax on legal cannabis cultivation. The revenue from this tax would remain local. Her letter and info on measure S can be found on the Lost Coast Outpost. We need a commercial cannabis land use ordinance and a tax measure on the ballot NOW! Supervisors, please show that you understand this is relevant and urgent for Del Norte county. Supervisor Howard spoke of a funding need for a deputy in Gasquet. Supervisor Gitlin wants to ‘take a bite out of blight’. Supervisor Finigan speaks often about funding for local childrens’ programs. Supervisor Hemmingsen would support revenue for quality road improvements. Supervisor McClure wants funds for our local seniors. I’m sure Lori Cowan has some community minded projects she would like to fund. Without leadership from county government on this issue, voters who want cannabis to contribute to these causes will support a measure drafted by concerned and informed citizens.
